Using shale gas means less greenhouse gas emissions.
Switching heavy-duty vehicle fleets to natural gas reduces emissions.
Natural gas is the cleanest-burning hydrocarbon and therefore ideal for power generation and use as a transportation fuel. For example, heavy-duty trucks and buses that run on natural gas can reduce greenhouse emissions by up to 25%.* Also, appliances, vehicles and power plants that use natural gas are highly efficient.
Canada has one of the largest natural gas reserves in the world. It is estimated that we have enough supply to last at least 100 years at current consumption levels. Because of this abundance of natural gas, opportunities exist to broaden the use of this cleanest-burning hydrocarbon domestically as well as globally. By exporting Canadian natural gas via terminals proposed for the West Coast, Canada can supply growing Asian economies with a cleaner-burning source of energy, and thereby help reduce global GHG emissions.
